Professional Journey in Engineering
I am an accomplished engineer with a rich and diverse experience spanning over 36 years, marked by significant contributions to various power projects across India. My journey began at Assam Engineering College, where I graduated in 1985 with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and was recruited by a central sector power enterprise as a Sub Divisional Officer. My early career was defined by my role in the restoration of two 50 MW units of the Kopili Hydro Electric Project which were flooded, where I actively participated with my seniors and learned Engineering.
Later on commissioning of the Units, I was instrumental in the finalization of all electro-mechanical contracts for Units 3 and 4 both 50 MW Units. This foundational experience set the stage for my subsequent assignment as the in-charge of the construction of electro-mechanical works at the 3×25 MW Doyang Hydro Electric Plant and switchyard. Successfully commissioning the power station, I briefly led its operations of the plant, before transitioning to a strategic role at the headquarters. In the commercial department at HQ, I gained invaluable insights into the financial and logistical aspects of power generation projects.
This experience was crucial when I later joined the 4×150 MW Kameng Hydro Electric Project as an Engineer in charge of EM works. Before this, I was sent to solve a significant challenge at the 3×135 MW Ranganadi Hydro Electric Project, considering my problem-solving skills which were pivotal in overcoming the commissioning obstacles to solve them—a career milestone, I regard as one of my greatest achievements. My tenure as General Manager and Head of the 275 MW Kopili Hydro Electric Project was distinguished by an innovative endeavour: the creation of the first botanical garden within a power project in India with a big natural lake which was cleared for beautification.
This initiative not only enhanced the project’s environmental stewardship but also demonstrated my commitment to integrating ecological considerations into industrial operations. I then returned to the Doyang Hydro Electric Project as the Head of the Project, where I facilitated the completion and public opening of the crucial Chubbi Nala Bridge over the reservoir. This accomplishment improved local infrastructure and demonstrated my ability to lead complex projects to fruition. Back at HQ, my focus shifted to innovative projects such as the extension of the Agartala Gas Turbine Project, which incorporated air-cooled condenser technology for the first time, and the development of the first megawatt-scale solar plant at Monarchak, Tripura.
As an Executive Director, I led multiple corporate departments, including Corporate Planning, Renewable Energy, Commercial, Safety and Security, and Information Technology. Throughout my career, I pursued continuous learning and leadership development. I was honoured to be selected for the prestigious LEAD (Leadership for Environment and Development) fellowship, sponsored by the Rockefeller Foundation, which recognized my dedication to sustainable development. I also attained the distinction of becoming a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), and I achieved a C-level project management certification from the International Project Management Association (IPMA), underscoring my expertise in managing complex engineering projects.

My commitment to integrating ecological considerations into industrial operations.I then returned to Doyang Hydro Electric Project .
One of my notable achievements in my executive role was the development and implementation of a comprehensive IT roadmap in the entire corporation, which included the deployment of high-bandwidth communication networks across all operational areas and the introduction of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) across the corporation. This transformation enhanced operational efficiency and connectivity within the organization. I retired on July 29, 2022, leaving behind a legacy of innovation, leadership, and a commitment to advancing India’s power generation capabilities. During this period, I was sought after for various national seminars and discussions, where I enjoyed delivering speeches and participating.
Literary Pursuits
My journey into the world of literature is as unexpected as it is rewarding. During my school days, literature was far from my forte, often earning me the stern critiques of my teachers. Despite a latent desire to explore this realm, my academic and professional pursuits as an engineer left little room for literary endeavours. My writing, confined to occasional letters to the editor, always felt like a prelude to a larger, untapped passion. Retirement in 2022 marked a pivotal shift in my life. Instead of succumbing to the numerous job offers that came my way, I chose to embrace the long-suppressed urge to write. Armed with a laptop and a head full of memories, I began documenting my experiences as a Project Engineer in the challenging terrains of Northeast India. The logistical hurdles, the innovative solutions, and the sacrifices made by engineers in those remote locations 35 years ago needed to be told. This endeavour resulted in my debut book, A SANGUINE TALE UNFOLDING THE LIFE OF A PROJECT ENGINEER, a narrative of resilience and ingenuity, which resonated with readers and earned me the Emerging Author of the Year award in Non-Fiction at the Kolkata Literary Carnival 2024 and the prestigious Golden Book Award 2024.
The success of this book not only validated my foray into writing but also fueled my determination to continue. Inspired by this recognition, I penned my second book, A NEW DAWN ADVENTURE IN THE GOLDEN YEARS, which soared to become an Amazon Best Seller, clinching the #1 spot. The confidence gained from these successes led to the publication of my third work, a collection of short stories titled WHISPERS OF THE DIVERSE TALES, further solidifying my reputation as an emerging voice in literature. Driven by a newfound passion, I ventured into what I consider the most challenging literary form: poetry. My first poetry collection, A SYMPHONY OF LIFE, and a fictional thriller novel, BEHIND THE HEADLINES, are set to hit the market shortly, showcasing my evolving versatility as a writer. In 2024, I was honoured with the prestigious INTERNATIONAL TAGORE AWARDS by DRDC for excellence in a specialist genre of LITERATURE, a testament to my ability to transform a once-weakness into a defining strength. Writing has not only become a means of sharing my life’s experiences but also a deeply fulfilling pursuit that has enriched my post-retirement life in ways I had never imagined. I am proof that it’s never too late to explore and excel in new domains, turning past weaknesses into a source of joy and accomplishment.
